About us
Thomaston Savings Bank began a tradition of family banking for people of the community. It was George A. Stoughton who had been most active in collecting signatures for a petition to the Legislature. After the charter was granted in August 1874, it was Mr. Stoughton who made room in his store, Burr & Stoughton, for the Bank. In September 1874, David Merriam made the first deposit. Under successive presidents, vice-presidents and secretary-treasurers, the Bank continued to serve the growing manufacturing town from varying locations until it moved into its own building on December 15, 1939 – a new colonial-style office built on the same site where Seth Thomas had originally built his home. From its humble beginnings in the Burr & Stoughton department store, Thomaston Savings Bank has expanded its role to meet the financial needs of individuals, families, and businesses located throughout western Connecticut and is now one of the strongest financial institutions in the state. Today, in the spirit of enterprise and endeavor that is the heritage of the former farming hamlet that became its own small city, Thomaston Savings Bank looks back with pride to its achievements – and looks ahead with dedication to a continued tradition of community banking.

Our Can Do Crew stepped out to support the SBAP Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on Sunday. We proudly support the Susan B. Anthony Project and the critical work they do to promote safety, healing, and growth for all survivors of interpersonal violence.

Our Can Do Crew had a wonderful time at the United Way of West Central Connecticut’s Day of Caring! The team spent the day assisting Bristol Adult Resource Center, Inc. with various projects at their Lake Avenue facility. Together we deconstructed a gazebo, washed windows, weeded, and mulched the grounds.

During #NationalPoliceWeek, we took special time to honor the law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe, as well as those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Throughout the week, our branch staff stopped by local police stations to deliver donuts as a small token of our appreciation.

Bank employees stepped up to participate in the Susan B. Anthony Project's Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. Led by our CEO and other male bankers donning red pumps, the team walked (and hobbled through) a one-mile lap around Thomaston in support of SBAP's mission to provide crisis and support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. 👠 Join SBAP for their live Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event this Sunday, May 19th.
