This May, we are proud to celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month by featuring members and allies of ITW's Asian Professionals Engagement Network (APEN). These colleagues have demonstrated a passion for promoting cultural competence and creating an inclusive and welcoming workplace. We are excited to introduce Jon Scruggs, IT director at Hobart Service in our FEG segment. Based in Troy, OH, Jon joined ITW in 2006 and worked his way through various technical and leadership positions. Jon has been a member of APEN since its establishment, and he appreciates the opportunity that AAPI Heritage Month provides to share food and fellowship while celebrating the unique backgrounds of his colleagues. Q: What does this month mean to you? A: "To me, it’s a reminder of the hard work and sacrifices my relatives made to provide opportunities for me and my family. My grandmother had to drop out of elementary school to help support the family financially. Just two generations later, I have the privilege of leading a function within a Fortune 200 company." Q: What brings you joy about your heritage and culture? A: "In my conversations with other families with Filipino heritage, it’s amazing the similarities we share, from food, to big family gatherings, to a having a strong matriarch who’s definitely in charge. Sharing stories brings me the most joy." Q: How has APEN impacted your time at ITW? A: "It’s wonderful to celebrate the incredible diversity within the APEN community, learning from other people’s experiences and points of view." #AAPI #ProudToBeITW

We are excited to introduce Nayana Bhandari, human resources manager at Simco-Ion in our Test & Measurement and Electronics segment. Based in Hatfield, PA, Nayana joined ITW in 2022 and supports six business units. Q: What significance does this month hold for you? A: It is an important time to celebrate the rich and diverse contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Recognizing achievements and honoring our history empowers us to promote awareness and understanding of all cultures. Growing up in India and immigrating to the U.S. almost 20 years ago has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. I embrace my Indian culture and celebrate traditions, values and customs. Being in this country for so long, I now understand what it means to be “Asian American." Q: How has APEN impacted your time at ITW? A: I immediately joined APEN when I joined ITW and am now actively involved in event coordination for our Northeast chapter. APEN has provided a sense of belonging within ITW and has helped me grow by expanding my professional network. Q: How do you and your colleagues celebrate AAPI Heritage Month? A: We have shared our cultures through food and conversation during potlucks. Enjoying cultural dishes is a fun way to learn about different heritages. #AAPI #ProudToBeITW
