Yesterday, our Employee Resource Group, AbilityWorx, hosted a special event on Neurodiversity featuring guest speaker, Victoria Hill, Director of Diversity and Social Impact. The event was an enlightening experience, helping us to deepen our understanding of neurodiversity and broaden our perspective on what is considered “normal.” It reminded us of the importance of appreciating how everyone learns differently and the need to reduce stigmas around learning and thinking differences. The April Labor Market report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics just dropped, and it's packed with noteworthy findings indicating that the labor market is rebalancing. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the U.S. economy added 175,000 jobs in April 2024, the slowest jobs gain in six months and below market expectations. April’s nonfarm payroll gains is lower than the average monthly gain of 242,000 over the prior 12 months. The unemployment rate increased slightly from 3.8% in March to 3.9% in April. This increase is primarily driven up by job losses. Encouragingly, the Labor Force participation rate held steady at 62.7% last month. Delving deeper into the data unveils nuanced trends and areas for continued attention, specifically related to labor demand. The hourly earnings report and weekly hours worked show a slowdown in growth, signaling that labor demand is moderating which should have a positive impact on inflation. Although job gains are softer than expected, initial unemployment data does not suggest a significant weakening in the labor market at this time. Yesterday the American Staffing Association hosted a networking call featuring CoWorx President & CEO, Kara Rogan, alongside Stacey Lane, CSP, CEO, Staffmark Group. The call was facilitated by Christine Bowden, Senior Marketing Manager at CoWorx Staffing Services, and Jennifer Fitzpatrick, Director of Talent Acquisition at Staffmark Group. Kara and Stacey discussed their individual journeys, their like-minded leadership styles, and how they are both intentionally choosing to lead as their authentic selves. This was an open and honest conversation about the weight and the privilege of holding the role of CEO and the highs and lows that come along with it.
